Inspired by how light can alter a space, Iranian artist Reza Raeisifar transformed Tehran’s Vast Gallery with The Crimson Procession, an immersive installation of light and sound presented in November 2025. The exhibition featured several oversized illuminated tulips, using the flower as a symbol of remembrance, sacrifice, and renewal.
Each glowing tulip was crafted from translucent red acrylic petals supported by a steel framework and lit from within, casting a warm glow throughout the space. Visitors were encouraged to wander among the floral sculptures, experiencing the shifting light and shapes from different viewpoints. Raeisifar aimed to create a contemplative space that conveyed a message of hope and new beginnings. The installation was paired with a soundscape by Pooya Pirozbakht that helped deepen the peaceful atmosphere.
“The red tulip evokes lives lost on the path of truth and freedom; a symbol of resilience and sacrifice,” explained Raeisifar. “Yet in its springtime bloom, it also recalls the resurgence of light from the heart of darkness.” The artist adds, “The Crimson Procession is an installation for standing, passing through, and pausing; a space where each work casts a red glow into the dark—like a small light for endurance, a silent resistance against forgetting, and a promise of tomorrow’s light.”
