Incredible Pen Drawings Visualize Futuristic Cities With Densely Detailed Architecture

Sci-fi Art Pen Drawings by Jae Cheol Park

If you’re into sci-fi art, the work of South Korean concept artist Jae Cheol Park (aka Paperblue) might just make it to the top of your favorites list. This artist’s incredible pencil and pen drawings detail imaginary worlds that blend science fiction with fantasy. Futuristic cities appear as expanding, industrial metropolises built upon chaotic layers of construction.

Each monochrome work is hand-sketched with perfect perspective, showing the colossal scale of Park’s architectural structures and his limitless imagination. Buildings seem to be stacked on top of each other, like futuristic slums built on hills that reach as high as skyscrapers. Cranes and treacherous-looking scaffolding can be seen on the sides of castles, towers, and boxy buildings, suggesting active development of the precarious, Jenga-like towers. Some images show gigantic vehicles being assembled, such as battleships and cruisers decked out with canons. Amongst mysterious doorways and arches, traditional Korean-style roofs can be seen, giving a nod to Park’s roots and suggesting a not-too-distant future that’s still linked to the past.

Park shares his sketch techniques on YouTube, where he shows how he creates his built-up environments. You can see more of the artist’s work on his website.
