As a new entry on the photography contest scene, the first annual Chromatic Awards is a celebration of color photography. The contest, which was a huge success, saw 3,000 entries from photographers in 75 countries. Across 20 categories, amateur and professional photographers submitted their best work in a wide variety of styles.
An international jury of experts came together to award Spanish photographer Cesar Dezuli the grand prize of $2,000 and the title of Chromatic Photographer of the Year 2017 for his haunting portrait titled Passenger. The image, which was also awarded a prize at the 2016 IPOTY Awards, depicts Amadou Sumaila (a 16-year-old migrant from Mali), minutes after being rescued from a rubber boat carrying 118 people through the Mediterranean Sea.
Amateur photographer Witold Ziomek took home the Chromatic Discovery of the Year Award for his powerful image of a solitary figure dwarfed by the power of a cascading waterfall. From fine art photography to dynamic sports images, the breadth and range of winners demonstrate the versatility of color photography across a wide range of subjects.
Let’s take a look at some of the winners from the professional and amateur categories as you get your own images ready to enter the 2018 contest.
