For the eighth year, the EPSON International Pano Awards celebrates the best panoramic photography from around the world. The 2017 contest saw more entries than ever, receiving over 5,000 panoramic photos from 1,300 photographers in 71 countries. The recently announced winners were awarded more than $50,000 in cash and prizes.

As the world’s largest panoramic photography competition, the EPSON International Pano Awards looks to reward technical skill, creativity, and storytelling across its open and amateur competitions, as well as a section for VR/360 imagery. Photographers submitted their work in two categories (Landscape and Built Environment) with the overall winner of the Open competition—Jesus M. Garcia capturing a magical sunrise over the Li River in Guangxi province, China.

“This photo was taken in China. We get up early about 3am for climbing at the top of the mountain, between trees and vegetation,” the Spanish photographer shares. “After 1 hour of climbing and carry all the photographic gear we arrived at the top of the mountain. This image is the result of 7 vertical stitched images. Nowadays when I see this photo, I remember a great effort to get this picture, but I remember too…one of the most beautiful sunrises of my life.”

In addition to category winners, the Pano Awards gives out numerous specialty prize, such as the Carolyn Mitchum Award. The special awards is given to photographers who succeed in conveying emotion and a narrative, in addition to technical excellence. This year’s winner, Wojciech Kruczynski, won for his carefully crafted image taken in Iceland showing the intimate balance in the relationship between man and nature.

Over 1,300 photographers entered the 2017 EPSON International Pano Awards, which highlights the best of panoramic photography. Here are some of the incredible winning images.
