Last year, we were blown away by Porcelain Beauty, a mesmerizing series by Israel-based photographer Yulia Taits that documents the ethereal allure of albinism. Now, Taits continues to explore this subject and expand her project with a new collection of striking Porcelain Beauty portraits.
Like the first installment of the unique series, Porcelain Beauty 2 features men, women, and children with albinism. To emphasize the angelic beauty of the figures, Taits photographs them in front of dreamy white backdrops. They’re all dressed in white, and many of them interact with similarly-colored props, like delicate, ivory feathers, gliding paper airplanes, and even an adorable, pale hedgehog. By employing this color scheme, Taits hopes to show the versatility and aesthetic diversity of the deceptively simple white color. “All of the photographs were taken in white tones with no additional coloring,” she explains on her website. “I’m excited to prove that white is not just one color! It has many tints, shades and beautiful tones.”
When Taits first shared her Porcelain Beauty series, it was well-received by the public—particularly, by those who have the rare congenital disorder. “I got a lot of feedback from people, many of them were people with Albinism,” she says. “They were saying my project is so powerful and it makes them feel beautiful and confident in the way they are. This is the main reason I decided to continue and create more beautiful images.”
