Catalonia-based creative team 05AM Arquitectura is known for their innovative design and old-meets-new aesthetic. For Maison à Colombages, an inventive interior project, the firm put a contemporary spin on a classic structure.
Located in the outskirts of Paris in La Varenne Saint Hilaire, Saint Maur des Fosses, the gorgeous 19th century home features a traditional French façade. From the outside, it appears entirely old-fashioned; however, inside, it is completely contemporary. Aiming to update its interior without abandoning its original design, the team remodeled it while “following the unity of the whole house to improve its functionality.”
On the ground floor, the kitchen, living room, and dining room walls were removed to open and brighten up the space, and built-in furniture was added to offer a stylish alternative to standard storage. In its first floor bedrooms, a clean and clear aesthetic manifests as chic and coordinated alcoves (marble in the master bedroom, and candy-colored in the children’s rooms) and subtle symmetry. When adorned with an eclectic palette and bold, bespoke furniture, the result is a dream home that is successful in “permitting flexibility and visual relationships between the spaces” and perfectly pairing the old with the new.
