Bigger is not always better, as Turkish artist Hasan Kale proves with his incredibly tiny works of art measuring smaller than a fingernail. With astonishing precision, the artist uses a fine-tipped brush to cover the surfaces of nuts, seeds, and matchsticks with images that are amazingly detailed for their minuscule scale.
Despite his unconventional canvases, Kale’s painting style is elegantly timeless, with an aesthetic similar to that of the neoclassical art movement. Vivid landscapes and stately figures–many of which represent Istanbul or aspects of Turkish culture–come to life on the miniature surfaces of everyday objects, calling attention to items that often go unnoticed in daily life.
