The artistic collaboration known as Miss Bugs – made up of a Wales-born girl and a Bristol-born guy (Miss and Bugs) – has recently completed a new artwork using their trademark style. Titled Chained To The Mirror, this large portrait measures at least 5 feet tall and over 3 feet wide. It’s comprised of surgical razor blades that float in resin on top of aluminum. Beneath the hundreds of tiny objects is the portrait of a woman whose gaze is fixed on something that’s in front of her.
Most of this striking image is cast in monochromatic gray tones, but Miss Bugs has also peppered some color throughout the composition. Bright pinks, blues, and yellows accent one of the most impressive characteristics of Chained to the Mirror – the gorgeous patterning of blades that are meticulously layered and arranged on the aluminum. They flow in waves behind the woman and form starbursts on top of her face. Sometimes, parts of the razors are painted to match the existing facial features and hair.
This isn’t the first time that we’ve admired the handiwork of the largely mysterious Miss Bugs. The two have worked together since 2007 and gained popularity during that time, showcasing their beautiful collaborations in art hubs like New York, London, and Los Angeles.
