Los Angeles-based photographer Dan Marker-Moore captures long periods of time through creative Time Slice photography. Across the course of minutes and hours, Marker-Moore uses a tripod and a lot of patience to document beautiful cityscapes, the gorgeous colors of a setting sun, or the rising moon.
Afterwards, he digitally slices sections of each photograph together into a single collage. The results are a magical representation of passing time consolidated into one still image. “I like to approach each timeslice a little differently, and explore what works for the scene,” explains Marker-Moore. “A lot of them fall flat. In fact, I shoot and edit quite a few that don’t work for each one that I share. Important aspects of a winning timeslice include good variation of color in the sky and strong subject. I really think I’ve only begun to explore design possibilities.”
