Everyday Scenes Playfully Transformed Into Speed Sketches

When not creating commercial illustrations for magazines, book, web, and TV, Tokyo-based illustrator Hama-House finds time to create these playful speed sketches of people doing everyday activities. Upon encountering an inspiring subject, the artist pulls out a notebook and a pen and quickly begins to draw.

Just as the average person might record an instant with a quick photo snapshot, Hama-House records those same memories with a technically skilled hand, a series of thin and thick black lines, and occasionally a bit of colorful shading.

Whether a group of women are chatting over lunch or a lone girl is quietly studying at a table, Hama-House captures the essence of each scene in the elaborate sketches. The artist documents the ephemeral moments in an amazing transformation of reality into swiftly completed line drawings. He then holds the notebook up against the actual real-life scene and documents the two together in one photograph. The juxtaposition is an interesting comparison of a blurry reality with a creative interpretation of the world.
