Chausseestrasse 43 is a new design for a multipurpose building in Berlin by architect Daniel Libeskind. Rising eight-stories-high, this 107,000 sq. ft. structure is designed to accommodate up to 73 apartments (including a top floor penthouse), each with one to four bedrooms. Additionally, the building offers a number of shops on its ground floor, underground parking, and a common outdoor area. The ambitious project manages to fill all of this on a fairly rectangular plot of land through its creatively angular design, which even allows the architecture to have large windows with ample sunlight.
To capture the most natural light, there are a number of large asymmetrical windows positioned all throughout the facade. Another unique detail to the eye-catching structure is its seemingly metallic outer coating. Actually clad in a subtle three-dimensional stoneware tile developed by the architect with help from Italian company Casalgrande Padana, the plates will be both self-cleaning and aid in air purification.
Chausseestrasse 43 is currently slated to be completely constructed in 2015.
