In The Last Supper, Moscow-based artist Nataliya Platonova filled every page of her little notebook with clever illustrations and she utilized the crease to add dimension to each playful scene. The project features all kinds of interesting characters about to enjoy a meal at the dinner table.
Occasionally the artist adds a hint of color to the otherwise monochromatic images. She uses thin and thick pen strokes, shades in certain dark areas, and leaves lighter areas untouched to achieve great details and textures in each quirky ink sketch.
Upon close inspection, viewers will discover plates filled with a variety of surprising meals. A frog sits in front of a frog sandwich, a family of three are faced with a dinner of pocket-watches, and two rough-looking pigs handle a beheaded pig on a platter. Regardless of what’s for dinner, viewers can’t help but also appreciate the adorable expressions and the interesting narratives that emanate from the simple line drawings.
