Similar to the idea behind the sheet music portraits of Erika Iris Simmons, Barcelona-based visual artist Sergio Albiac takes the written musical compositions of famous classical composers and constructs portraits of each corresponding symphonist out of them. The result is an intriguing series of meta-portraits of these men, from Beethoven to Tchaikovsky, whose brilliant work literally makes them who they are. Additionally, Albiac embeds each musical visionary’s signature into the collage. It should also be noted that these are not your typical cut-and-paste collages. They are, in fact, generative collages, which is a form of art created through algorithmic coding. Albiac experiments with generative art, using computational codes to create complex, layered digital illustrations.
