Sad Cement People (20 pics)

Camouflaged within the urban environment, these sad cement people never get the attention they deserve. Living right amongst their larger, human counterparts, they live an undeniably empty life. Next time you’re in the city, turn a corner and look down, you may see one of them hidden amongst your trash. Give them a wave, a smile or a little nod. Your small gesture will mean more than you know.

Cement Eclipses is a research project started by Isaac Cordal. Cordal places his sculptures in urban environments and photographs them hidden among the sidewalks, streets, and walls. In their natural habitat, these small figures represent “a kind of metamorphosis in which the man leaves his roles as citizens camouflaging themselves with the city and slowly becomes part of the furniture.”

This project started in 2006 and is now in several European cities including Berlin, London, Brussels, and Barcelona. Look for them when you’re out and about!
