Germany-based artist Wolfgang Hildebrand captures such intense light and dramatic details in his series of photographs that the images appear almost painterly. Entitled Moment, the project is actually a combination of many different moments from day and night merged into one.
Hildebrand uses long exposures to capture a specific scene at various times throughout the day and he then merges those shots together into one striking image. In each composition, there is an incredible contrast between dark and light that magically blurs together. Brightly illuminated skies sit in direct contrast with the nightly activity of quickly moving headlights on cars and brightly glowing street lamps.
“Even though this new unique moment never actually happened, it looks somehow familiar to the viewer,” explains Hildebrand. “Only at second glance [do] we loose orientation and realize the complex new reality shown–questioning our common photographic perception.”
