Amateur photographer Wei Gensheng has taken advantage of multiple opportunities as a crane operator to capture stunning images of Shanghai from over 2,000 feet above the city. Working on the final construction stages of the Shanghai Tower, said to be the tallest building in China and the second tallest in the entire world, Gensheng has managed to document the surrounding urban landscape from an entirely unique vantage point.
Despite taking up photography simply as a hobby, Gensheng has just recently taken second prize in the Shanghai City Photography Competition for these remarkable aerial shots. The laborer’s photos depict the surreal scene of a city in the clouds. The endless rows of soaring towers are like model toys, poking their tips throughout the fog. Even in images with clear skies, there’s something remarkable about the photographer’s point of view that makes the bustling city seem like a magical place full of life and adventures yet to discover.
