The 2018 Met Gala has passed, but we’ll long be talking about the amazing (and often outrageous) outfits worn by celebrity attendees. This year’s theme was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” and guests came dressed in extraordinary outfits that were over-the-top in their opulence—many with a costume-like approach to their ensembles. Head-to-toe jewels, nods to the papal headdress, and a lot of gold were all mainstays of this highly anticipated event.
The theme lent itself to fashions akin to historic Renaissance art, but Vogue magazine offset this with their contemporary approach to remembering the night. Like last year, they had a team who created short music videos starring the attendees themselves. The scope of the 2018 video project expanded; directed by Bardia Zeinali, celebrities strutted their stuff around different galleries in the museum, which highlighted both the outfits as well as the art on the walls. Each mini performance was set to tunes from the likes of Basement Jaxx and Coolio. The results were a playful juxtaposition with the centuries-old artwork that surrounded them.
The ambitious endeavor is a creative way to remember the night—it goes well beyond the ordinary photograph. Scroll down to watch Rihanna, the Kardashians, Katy Perry, and more work the room.
