Urban Street Art: Vertical Gardens are Not the Answer

Street art collective Luzinterruptus is upset about the lack of green space in urban areas and the fact that we are being forced to compensate with vertical gardens. To illustrate his point, the Madrid-based group lit up leaves and branches in 110 transparent food packaging containers on an ugly, neglected city wall.

One of the problems of vertical gardens is the lack of accessibility. Instead of beautifying cement faces, they believe that there’s a need for more public green space that can be used by all citizens. The use of plastic containers highlights a temporary artificial “solution” that surely cannot be a longterm cure.
