Perch Light is a playful light design that looks like a small, abstract bird sitting quietly on the edge of a ledge. It was created by London-based Umut Yamac, an architect and designer who enjoys creating works that blend his interest in traditional materials like metal with more fragile materials like paper.
The balancing sculpture is made out of folded archival paper, LEDs, and brass and is illuminated through contact with the brass. It remains sedentary until a gentle wind or touch activates the device, which comes alive and begins to rock back and forth.
According to Yamac, “The quality that unites each piece is the emphasis placed on the relationship with the user; and the desire to offer different levels of engagement, from purely functional to the playful and imaginary.”
