The Sword in the Stone
Artist Tyson Murphy recreates some of our favorite classic Disney films by digitally painting their still scenes. He’s not trying to outdo The Sword in the Stone or 101 Dalmatians, but simply reimagine what they’d look like when rendered three-dimensionally. Murphy uses Photoshop to give these images a unique update that combines the magic of vintage Disney with a style that’s popular today.
When compared side-by-side, it’s amazing to see the transformation that takes place. Murphy’s use of shading and minimal outlines makes these images look real to the touch. In addition, his skills allow him to create a more atmospheric and emotionally-charged scene. We’re now treated to a special sword that glows in the sunlight.
Murphy has only painted two film scenes so far, but indicates that we’ll see more. In addition to this project, he’s also the lead character artist for Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft computer game, and helps craft its fantastical creatures.
