The side of a freight truck, with its expansive surface space, has great potential for massive artistic expression. This becomes all the more clear as the Truck Art Project transforms these large vehicles into mobile galleries whose exteriors display contemporary paintings. The open road hosts these unconventional artworks, utilizing a network of trade transportation routes that roll across Spain and bring art to places where this type of unexpected work is rarely seen.
So far, 10 trucks have been painted out of the 100 that are planned. The chosen artists represent some of Spain’s most renowned creatives, including: Javier Arce, Suso33, Okuda San Miguel, Abraham Lacalle, Marina Vargas, Javier Calleja, and Daniel Muoz. In the coming months, additional artists will paint the trucks until the fleet of modern murals is complete. For some of the vehicles, however, an eye-catching exterior is just part of their appeal–select trucks will also have exhibitions that offer the public even more art to enjoy.
The Truck Art Project is a collaboration between Jaime Colsa, owner of the distribution company Palibex and iam Gallery Madrid. Through their website, you can track the fleet or even request a visit from the nomadic gallery.
