Water Balloon Light Bulbs Filled with Twinkling Air Bubbles

In this Water Balloon Light Bulb design, it looks like a tiny little universe has been captured inside a piece of glass. Created by Koichi Suzuno and Shinya Kamuro of Torafu Architects, the clever interior lighting is inspired by the process of filling up a water balloon underneath a faucet. The shapes swell and expand and seem to hang heavily towards the bottom, just like a full water balloon might.

The team worked in collaboration with a glass artist to transform the recycled fluorescent bulbs into the beautiful designs that redefine the everyday materials as functioning works of art. Each lamp is directly illuminated by LED lights that magnify the floating bubbles and the beautiful contours of the glass. The playful creation was displayed last month at the IFFT interior design show in Tokyo.
