LEGO Enthusiast’s Bird Models Will Soon Hit the Shelves

In 2012, we shared the fantastic work of Bristol-based LEGO enthusiast and bird lover, Tom Poulsom. His affinity for the winged creatures lead him to construct a series of popular birds in the UK and North America. They are stunning in their attention to detail, and we’re happy to report that Poulsom has since successfully pitched three of his models to LEGO through the LEGO Ideas platform. This means that they’re in production and will eventually hit the shelves!

Starting in January 2015, you can purchase Poulsom’s blue jay, hummingbird, and robin models. Each sits on its own stand, the hummingbird has its long beak pointed towards a flower, which you build, too.

This set seems perfect for any nature lover, and the great outdoors is where Poulsom initially got the idea to design them. “I was digging a vegetable patch one day and during a quick break I noticed a Robin land on my fork handle,” he tells the LEGO Ideas blog. “This was the inspiration behind “Bobby the Robin”. I built him that evening and enjoyed building this bird so much that I decided to build some of my favorite birds from Europe.” It’s all history from there, and soon the world will enjoy putting these figures together, too.
