Balance is a short film directed by Tobias Hutzler that captures the unbelievable balancing act performed by artist Mdir Eugster of Rigolo Swiss Nouveau Cirque. Set against a blank, white backdrop, the performance artist carefully assembles 16 bare ribs of palm leaves and a feather by balancing each piece in front of the other. The separate elements are unconnected throughout the entire grueling process as Eugster manages to keep his footing for the duration of the balancing act.
More than a simple test of stability, Balance presents a visually mesmerizing look at the form that Eugster creates and eventually steadies on his head. The artist’s criss-crossing pattern leaves one to look on in wonderment, especially against the white backdrop which makes it seem like the materials are simply floating in midair. The short film bewilders viewers while simultaneously exhibiting Eugster’s incredible talent, step by step.
