Bride and Groom Combine Two Visions into One Incredible Wedding Cake

When it comes to the wedding cake, soon-to-be married couples often have to make sacrifices in order to finally choose how their dessert will look and taste. Newlyweds Kia Parsons and Billy Bunning clearly have the whole give-and-take thing figured out, as they each had different visions when it came to the confection: the bride wanted an all-white cake with cascading sugar flowers, while the groom wanted his love of comic book superheroes to be part of their celebration. To make each other happy, they met in the middle–literally.

The four-tiered cake included everything they both wanted. One half featured Parsons’ beautiful, traditional-style floral arrangement that flowed from the top to the bottom. And, behind delicate icing curtains, a colorful confection celebrating Bunning’s passion for comic book heroes was cleverly revealed. The logos of Captain America, Spider Man, Iron Man, and Batman occupied each layer.

Julia Baker of Tier by Tier cake design was the mastermind behind the cake, and her impressive creation took 40 hours to complete–12 hours to make the sugar flowers, and 28 hours to bake the cake and build it. Parsons and Bunning were elated by the final product. “Julia did such a fantastic job and we were completely overwhelmed by how brilliant it looked!” the bride gushed to Huffington Post. “From most angles of the room, the cake looked like a traditional wedding cake — just what we had wanted. It wasn’t until the cake was moved for us to cut that our guests realized there was a hidden extra. Some didn’t even realize until the photos went online after the wedding!”
