Giant Flower Bouquet Takes Over NYC Street With Over 40 Feet of Real Blooms

Public Art by Terrain Work

Landscape architecture and urban design firm Terrain Work has declared their love of New York City by transforming one of its street staples into something fit for a giant. Scaling the conventional flower bouquet way up, they installed Broadway Bouquet, a temporary, site-specific installation comprising a giant cone that contains an assortment of colorful trees and flowery shrubs.

The flower installation art measured an impressive 40 feet long and eight feet high. Despite its oversized proportions, the massive bouquet was a nod to the much smaller “cut flower culture,” in which arrays of gathered blooms are for sale on countless corners around the five boroughs.

Broadway Bouquet was created as part of the NYC/DOT Car Free Earth Day event on April 21. Situated at Broadway and 24th street—a very busy intersection—the piece occupied a space that could otherwise be used for a car. But the whimsical cornucopia, teeming with life, demonstrates the beautiful possibilities for public art when we lessen vehicular traffic.
