Glowing Moon Installation by SpY Lights Up the Night Sky

One of our favorite urban artists, SpY, has unveiled a stunning new installation titled MOON, featuring a glowing crescent moon suspended high in the sky above the cole Polytechnique Fdrale de Lausanne campus in Lausanne, Switzerland. The massive moon, which hangs from an industrial crane, transforms the night sky completely, illuminating the darkness and casting a new light on the plaza below.

The artist was inspired to create this piece after visiting the university and discovering the great things that take place there. For him, the moon has always held a powerful magnetism, acting as a star that attracts him. He tells us, “I liked to watch the reaction of the students when they came out at night and discovered that the campus was lit with a moon after a day of work.” For many hard-working students, looking up and seeing the stunning artificial moon is an inspiring and wondrous sight. SpY says, “I like to generate some type of reaction with my work; I try to awaken and create a more lucid conscience with my interventions. If a passerby who sees the piece likes it, they see the work as a romantic act and will take part of the intervention with them.”

SpY’s site-specific installation reflects his commitment to being receptive to the dialogue of whichever city he is choosing to express his ideas in. He tells us, “Sometimes the place suggests an idea to me, and then there are times when a social circumstance prompts me to develop an intervention; at other times an idea takes me to a place, and at other times I simply want to say something and look for the best way to do so.”

Thanks so much for taking the time to tell us more about your stunning work, SpY!
