In Seoul, he debuted an amazing life-sized replica of his Korean home and his first apartment (which was located in Rhode Island), and now Korean artist Do Ho Suh is back with yet another amazing fabric creation. This newly exhibited one marks the closure of his “Home” series. On view at the Contemporary Austin, visitors will find the apartment complex where the artist lived while residing in New York City, or 348 West 22nd Street. In colorful sheer fabric, rooms and corridors are filled with transparency and light. As they walk around, visitors will be amazed at the level of detail the artist has achieved with just polyester fabric and stainless steel tubing.
In addition, Suh is showing his Specimen Series where appliances like a refrigerator, stove, and toilet are eerily lit in a dark room. Also on hand is Net-Work, a refrabricated piece set outdoors. The fishing net inspired piece is all the more interesting as you walk up close.
Do Ho Suh’s exhibition will be at the gallery until January 11, 2015.
