Art fairs are where the business of art takes place—pieces are bought and sold—but they’re also where art lovers convene to enjoy the act of viewing. The Seattle Art Fair returned for another year, highlighting these two facets of the art world. From July 17 to July 20, 2025, the city’s Lumen Field Event Center transformed into a vibrant gathering of galleries from the Pacific Northwest (PNW) and beyond.
It was the 9th edition of the Seattle Art Fair, with about 90 galleries showcasing artwork. In general, the fair emphasizes a regional flair, leaning into the PNW’s glass heritage and the influences of technology and the environment. This year was no different. Artist Niki Keenan, for instance, showed a diptych titled Meteor Flower in the Astral Islands, which “conjured the lush Pacific Northwest as a site of healing and transformation.” Nathan Shafer and Mengloth Entertainment created an interactive augmented reality video game titled Head Touches Place: The Black Pyramid, which views the medium as a form of installation art. In this case, the piece fused conspiracy theory, folklore, and speculative gaming lore.
Glass is an important part of the region’s artistic legacy and was well-represented at the fair. The Museum of Glass in neighboring Tacoma and the Pilchuck Glass School (founded by the legendary glass artist Dale Chihuly) collaborated on live glassblowing demonstrations at the main entrance. There were other glass-focused presentations, including one from the Pittsburgh Glass Center and a “pop-up” installation hosted by the Corning Museum of Glass featuring contemporary glass artists.
Community plays an important role within the fair itself. In partnership with the Seattle Art Museum, the institution hosted educational talks, curated tours, and special programming to deepen visitors’ understanding and appreciation of contemporary art. By doing this, the Seattle Art Fair is helping to create a community-forward art experience that both collectors and art-curious visitors can appreciate.
