Braided Rose Hairstyle Transforms Ordinary Locks Into a Beautiful Blooming Updo

The spring season is synonymous with flowers. From tattoos to clothing, wearing colorful blooms allows us to celebrate the longer days and warmer weather. But for those that can’t get enough of everything flowers, hair stylist Alison Valsamis has created the ultimate braided updo that you can wear to a music festival, wedding, or even a day when you’re feeling particularly fancy. Her rose-inspired style makes it look like your head is sprouting a beautiful flower (or two).

If you’d like to produce this look for yourself, Valsamis offers some guidance. “To create these roses, I start with a small 3-strand braid rolled up to serve as the centermost part,” she explained to Allure. “Next, I alternate between standard fishtails and Dutch fishtails pulled apart to create depth. I finish with a Dutch 3-strand braid only pulled out on the outermost side to create the large petal feel of a rose in bloom.” This style is best for those that have some prior braiding know-how.

In addition to her written instructions, Valsamis has posted the style from multiple angles on her Instagram so you have a helpful visual guide in your updo journey. And because of the positive response, she’s since created a short tutorial. Good luck!
