Famous Landmarks Seen Through a Tilt Shift Perspective

Machu Picchu

Richard Silver doesn’t want to just document the world around him with a typical photograph. Instead, the New York-based photographer wants to share his life experiences through extensive travel and creative visual techniques like panorama, HDR and, in this case, tilt shift photography. He says, “Photography and travel may as well be one word to me. My goal as an artist is to ‘X’ off as many places around the world until I run out of places or run out of time.”

In this series, simply titled Tilt Shift, the well-traveled artist has captured many famous places and events, including Machu Picchu in Peru, The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, the Coliseum in Rome, and the Acropolis of Athens. Then, in post production, Silver creates a selective focus that changes the entire context of the image. Through these digital tilt shift manipulations, the artist transforms the well-known scenes into optical illusions of miniature little worlds. He says, “My goal is to give the viewer a new way of seeing themselves and their place in the world.”

This isn’t the first time Silver has provided his viewers with a unique perspective of the world. In his Vertical Churches project, he blends a handful of photographs into one vertical panoramic image that captures the inner beauty of church architecture.
