Inspiring Before-and-After Portraits of People Who Were Born Prematurely

Photographer Red Méthot understands the obstacles that families face when dealing with a premature birth, but wants to show them that they shouldn’t lose hope. Through his Las Premas series, the artist beautifully portrays the metaphoric light at the end of the tunnel. “This album shows portraits of people born prematurely that have sometimes had a difficult journey at the beginning of life,” he writes. “They are photographed holding in their hands an image of them taken during this period. You can see what they have become.” In displaying this uplifting transition with both young children and adults, Méthot perfectly captures the definition of perseverance.

“My two children were born prematurely,” the photographer told Yahoo! Parenting. “My intention with this project is to show to people what prematurity is, to fight against some prejudices, and to send a big message of hope to parents going through a tough time.”
