For those familiar with Hansel and Gretel (the grisly Brothers Grimm tale), the idea of staying in a cottage made of candy might fill you with fear. However, Booking.com is offering a delectable overnight stay in a custom-built cottage made entirely of chocolate—and there’s no wicked witch in sight! The incredible experience is a chocolate lover’s dream come true, with tasty treats around every corner.
Designed and manufactured by renowned artisan chocolatier, Jean-Luc Decluzeau, the 18-square-meter (about 194-square-foot) cottage is located at L’Orangerie Ephémère in the gardens of the Cité de la Céramique in Sèvres, France. At first glance it looks like a typical, cozy cottage made of wood; however, it’s actually constructed from 1.5 metric tons of delicious chocolate. Guests will be treated to a feast of sweet treats everywhere they look, including chocolate walls, a chocolate roof, fireplace, dresser, clock, cups, books, and even a decadent chocolate chandelier. And if their chocolate cravings still aren’t satisfied, they can walk outside to find a white chocolate duck pond and chocolate flower bed.
Guests will also have the opportunity to participate in a unique workshop led by Decluzeau himself, where the talented chocolatier will teach them how to craft personalized mini chocolate chalets. The chocolate extravaganza continues with a delicious dinner and breakfast, served in the cottage’s idyllic flower garden. Vanessa Heydorff, Regional Director of Booking.com, France, says, “This Chocolate Cottage—the only bookable one ever created—celebrates the incredible diversity of Booking.com’s offering and is a tasty example of the many unforgettable travel experiences our customers can enjoy.”
“I never thought I’d have the opportunity to build a life-size Chocolate Cottage for travelers to sleep in!” says Jean-Luc Decluzeau. “I’m excited to collaborate with Booking.com and to share my passion for chocolate. I hope guests will relish the chance to experience such a sweet and unique place to stay.”
If you want to stay in this sweet abode, you better be quick—only a few select nights are available for booking. Check out the Booking.com website for more details.
