Jeju island’s Modern Cocoon House

Located on South Korea’s volcanic Jeju island, architecture firm Planning Korea recently completed their unique design for a luxury condominium inspired by nature. The Cocoon House features an outdoor pool overlooking the sea, kitchen and living areas, a conference zone, small library, and rooftop garden.

The most standout feature is, however, the structure’s “cocoon,” which is located at the center of the house. The condo is placed within a forest named Gotjawal, which contains mild temperature and high humidity throughout the year. To accomodate this, circular windows can be opened and closed, as though it was a real cocoon.

The house is the first phase of the Jeju Airest City, the biggest integrated resort development in the history of Jeju island. Once completed, it will feature various resort facilities including a shopping mall, casino, hotel, medical center, and more luxury condominiums. The first phase of construction is set for September 2012 and is slated to be completed in 2015.
