There are so many sweet souls in animal shelters that are just waiting for their person to find them and take them home. Sadly, bigger and older dogs are usually overlooked in favor of smaller pups. Some people mistake them for being too intimidating or aggressive; but, in actuality, these big lugs are usually sweethearts who will love you unconditionally. Petey the dog is a prime example of this. After being stuck at a shelter for over a year, he finally found his forever home. To make everything more inspiring, his new family even shared a picture of Petey sleeping with a smile on his face after moving in.
Petey, known for his cheerful demeanor and a spot that looks like an eyepatch, had run out of time at a small overcapacity shelter with no potential adopters lined up for him. That’s when the staff reached out to the SPCA of Wake County to help him find his forever family. Despite these developments, Petey never lost his spirit, and was excited about the move. “As soon as he got here, he was yanking on the leash trying to get through the door. He bounded into the building,”recalls Samantha Ranlet, spokesperson for the SPCA of Wake County. “He was super friendly from day one and very playful. We couldn’t believe that nobody wanted him.”
The SPCA staff posted a picture of him on their social media with his adoption status on social media. In just a few weeks, Petey had found his forever home, as his adopters fell in love with his sweet face and couldn’t wait to meet him. Now, he has moved in with his family, which already included another pup.
“Petey is settling in perfectly in his new home,” a member of his new family happily shared, along with some pictures him with his human parents and his dog brother, Adikus. “He loves sleeping in the bed, playing fetch, and sniffing around the yard. And LOVES playing with his new brother and any other doggy friend he finds. He’s the perfect addition. Petey is so loved and is opening up and showing us his beautiful personality. I am so happy to have him.”
Petey the dog had spent over a year at an overcapacity animal shelter, so he had to be moved to the SPCA of Wake County. After posting a picture of him on social media, he found his forever home.
