Artist Spends an Entire Day Creating One-of-a-Kind Watercolor Tattoos for Each Client

Czech Republic-based artist Ondrej Konupcik, aka Ondrash, has a tattoo style that’s different from the usual thick, black outlines–his colorful pieces mimic the carefree fluidity of watercolor paintings. The stunning works depict animals, nature scenes, and non-representational designs that look as though they were done with a brush. Rather than conforming to include hard outlines, Ondrash uses stippling to convey a realistic sense of brushstrokes and paint splatters. Though his work manifests figurative subjects, it truly shines as abstract forms with bright, meandering color palettes.

To create his unique body art, Ondrash has some unconventional practices. Instead of using catalogs or “flash” pages to reproduce favored tattoos, he creates an original design for each client. When it’s time for them to be tattooed, Ondrash draws directly on the skin rather than transferring the design via carbon paper, which ensures that his pieces are tailored to the person. He then spends the entire day working on the tattoo, making it nearly impossible to see more than one customer per day. This process allows him to give the client exactly what they want, donning something that’s truly unique to their body.
