In just 10 weeks, the Barcelona-based architecture firm NOEM built this modern, prefabricated home for a couple in Castelln de la Plana, Spain. It’s called The Smart Shelter and is intended as a place of leisure where the residents can enjoy the surrounding views. Although it’s a minimalist design, NOEM’s features give this house an inviting, clean feel that’s mindful of current technology. Parts of it are easily and automatically controlled from a mobile device.
The airy home includes two wooden modules on its property, both of which have specific uses. One building is for all the facilities and brings together the kitchen and the bathroom. The other has an eye-catching exterior metal accent outlining the rectangular structure with white, rounded corners. There’s terrace for relaxation and an interior space adaptable for any purpose such as a bedroom or as a place to shoot billiards. In addition to these two buildings, there’s a grill and pool in the yard, too.
Construction of the The Smart Shelter used local wood and insulation to lessen the CO2 footprint of the house. It also employs passive cooling strategies, LED lighting, and a dual-flow ventilation system to minimize energy wasted, but still ensure warmth and comfort for its inhabitants.
