Simple flowers purchased from the corner market plus some dramatic lighting are all Noah Kalina needed to create this visually stunning series, entitled Flowers*. For the project, the Brooklyn-based photographer produced a number of still life images where he transformed single, isolated buds into powerfully expressive compositions.
Kalina used a diverse range of objects which shared one common, blossoming bond. To present the photographs, the artist arranged interior lighting so that it appeared to be illuminating the flowers directly. The illusion impressively blurred the line between the prints and the actual surrounding space. The dark, moody lighting cast shadows across the walls and floors, while the vibrant colors produced a dynamic atmosphere radiating throughout the room. The project was recently shown for one night only at 17 Frost gallery, located in the Williamsburg neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York.
