Gorgeous Rainbow Ceiling Brightens Sydney Laneway

Our love and appreciation for overhead art installations continue with this wonderfully whimsical one by artist Nike Savvas. Chosen as one of nine contemporary artists to make us see city lanes in a new way, Savvas put up a colorful ceiling composed of thousands of long, multi-colored strands along Sydney’s Bridge Lane. Pictures probably don’t do this installation justice because, as the wind stirs, one can only imagine looking up and seeing the beautiful wash of colors.

Created in 2010 for Art & About Sydney, a collaborative arts festival that asks artists to use the city as their canvas, sadly, one can’t experience this today. However, Art & About will run exactly one month this year starting on September 21 and promises some equally amazing works like a large-scale video projection of old footage on the outside of a historic hotel, a house that rains inside, and funny emoticon road signs. If you just can’t wait, you can see some preview pictures here.

If Savvas’ name sounds familiar, she’s also the one behind that incredibly cool bouncy ball installation. Must continue to follow her work.
