Artists are constantly emerging and they seem to be getting younger and younger. With a wide selection of teen photographers out there like Alex Stoddard, Brian Oldham, and Phillip Schumacher, it’s a competitive market and increasingly difficult to stand out. Luckily, 18-year-old photographer Nicholas Scarpinato is well-versed in the art, which is apparent through his portfolio of surreal work.
The Virginia-based shutterbug is following in the footsteps of his peers and has just recently embarked on his own 365 project, producing an inventively striking image each day. Many of his photos seem to draw inspiration from the works of Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison. Like the married duo’s series depicting the everyday man, Scarpinato can often be seen donning a suit and while he cites the duo as one of his clear influences, he manages to add his own flair and techniques to enhance the images while learning the artists’ method of incorporating mixed media.
Throughout Scarpinato’s modest yet increasing collection of images, we’re able to see the young photographer’s growth and grasp of highly technical effects that allow him to play with size ratio and visually realize his surrealistic dreams. We’re eager to see where this photographic journey will take him and the imaginative images he’s yet to produce.
Thanks for sharing your work with us, Nicholas!
