Beloved Books Reimagined as Quirky Hand-Embroidered Clutches

Although we’re told not to, it’s difficult not to judge a book by its cover. Oftentimes, it’s the illustration, the colors or the title’s font that grabs our attention and piques our interest in delving inside. Mrs. Chaplin Book Clutches celebrates literature’s most beloved book covers by using wool felt and silk thread to handcraft rectangular, gold-latch purses decorated with treasured titles, such as The Great Gatsby and The Wizard of Oz.

The cleverly crafted book clutches are the brainchild of a Moscow-based creative named Tatiana, who has combined her love of fashion, color, and reading into one ongoing project. Not an embroiderer by trade, Tatiana had to learn and practice the skill in order to make her first clutch. She says of the creative process: “Transferring a picture onto a canvas with the means of only felt and thread is kind of a challenge but a really exciting one. Every project teaches me something new and helps me continuously polish my embroidery skills.” Her Etsy shop has 35 original items to date, and also offers opportunities for custom orders.

Mrs. Chaplin’s quirky but functional accessory is just what any fashionable bookworm needs to make a bold personality statement, while carrying your phone, wallet, keys, and don’t forget your library card!

Whether you reach for the classics…

…or an old favorite…

Mrs. Chaplin has a clutch for you!
