Newlyweds Pose for Romantic Wedding Photos in Front of an Erupting Volcano

There are some photos you just can’t plan for, but when they happen, it seems like kismet. A couple who exchanged vows near the Mount Mayon volcano in the northeastern Philippines have some of the most unique wedding photos we’ve seen yet. As the peak spewed mounds of smoke and piping hot lava, Arlo Gerald de la Cruz and Maria Hussa Maica Nicerio posed for romantic portraits in front of the awe-inspiring sight.

The couple had their pictures taken at the Red Labuyo restaurant, which is known for its stunning view of Mount Mayon. While they undoubtedly came for the gorgeous backdrop, they got more than they bargained for, visually, with the eruption. Cruz and Nicerio were a considerable distance away from the site (although thousands in a nearby village had to flee), which allowed them to safely enjoy the smoky beauty. The resulting images, a selection captured by Nebreja Bros. Media, have an ethereal quality like a scene from an epic fairy tale.

Mount Mayon is the most active volcano in the Philippines, and it’s erupted 50 times in the past 500 years. So if rain on your wedding day is supposed to be good luck, then we can’t imagine all the good juju that the volcano will bring to Cruz and Nicerio’s wedded lives.
