Like many modern-day designers, New York-based creative Nick Misani is skilled in the art of typography. Unlike most of his contemporaries, however, Misani combines his text-related talents with photography to create realistic digital art. Misani beautifully presents this unique approach to graphic design in Fauxsaics, a thematic series of travel-inspired and digitally-created mosaic art.
Each work of digital art includes the name of a city set against a one-of-a-kind patterned background. Both the tiled text and the backdrop evoke the aesthetic of the place being represented through color palette, typography, and decoration. For example, the classic feel of London materializes as a balanced, black-and-white square, while the glitz and glamour of sunny Los Angeles manifests as both Art Deco-inspired typography and a warm color scheme.
Featuring beautiful tiles obstructed only by digitally-inserted photographs of the artist’s feet, the quirky collection of mosaic art is undoubtedly inspired by the recent trend of photographing mesmerizing floors around the world. In addition to its similar composition, Fauxsaics further references this genre by placing an emphasis on locations from around the world. However, this form of photography is not the only muse behind the mosaic art. “For a long time, I’ve been obsessed with lettering, interior design, and decorative arts,” Misani tells Highsnobiety. “So mosaics—as an intersection between these three passions—have always been fascinating to me.”
