Wouldn’t it be nice if dark streets were illuminated by these beautiful, photosynthetic leaves? That’s the concept behind Jongoh Lee’s “invisible streetlight.” The flexible body of the solar-powered light is designed to directly wrap around a tree branch with no support required, seamlessly blending into the surrounding environment. The leaves store the sun’s energy throughout the day and then bursts with light when darkness arrives. Perfect for parks and other tree-lined spaces, the invisible streetlight provides an energy-saving solution without breaking up the experience of the outdoors. Currently living in Seoul, Lee graduated from Kookmin University with a specialty in Industrial Design. “I enjoy designing,” he says. “Certainly, design is interwoven with our daily life, and my inspiration for design often comes from observing people. In their life where joy and despair coexist, design is my way of conversing with them. When I walk down the road, I immerse myself in the world around me, and the life in it inspires me for design.”
