Modern Architecture – World Games Stadium: Taiwan

Japanese architect Toyo Ito recently unveiled the World Games’ Main Stadium in Taiwan at an opening ceremony. The ultra-modern stadium, in accordance with the ecological requirements of a “Green Building”, consists of approximately 8,844 solar panels which strategically placed on the roof.

Designed to look like a flowing river, the solar panels can cover 75% of the energy needs, depending on the sunshine. When no competitions are scheduled, electricity generated is fed directly into a grid, thus creating Taiwan’s largest solar powered installation to date. The venue holds up to 55,000 spectators and cost $150 million to build.
