Designed by Atelier Feichang Jianzhu, the Shanghai Corporate Pavilion for the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai will be made out of thousands of plastic tubes from used CD cases. Multi-colored LED lights will be installed throughout the exterior of the structure, meaning the building could change appearances at any given moment.
Shanghai’s Corporate Pavilion features a 17,000 square foot (1,600 sq m) solar heat-collecting tube system on the roof. The stored energy will be able to heat water up to 203F (95C), and produce electricity for everyday use.
Along with the collection of solar energy, the pavilion will collect and recycle rainwater. Some of the water will be used for a misting system that will help lower the temperature, purify the air, and create a comfortable climate in the pavilion. It will also add to the structure’s appearance and help give it a dream-like feel.
