Modern Architecture: Floating House (8 pics)

The Napa River House in California is located on a site with mature oak trees and stone pathways winding down a gently sloping hill. Craig Steely Architecture didn’t want to disturb the paths and root structure of the trees, so they built a structural system, originally inspired by a chairlift tower, that floats the main living area into the existing oak canopy.

The 2,382 sq. ft. interior is divided into two legs, with the kitchen and living room on each end. The two bedrooms are at the heart of the plan, where the two legs merge, and a swimming pool is adjacent to the home, on ground level.
