Minipresso is a travel-sized espresso maker for people on the go. Created by the Hong Kong company Wacaco, it’s a cylindrical, all-in-one system that includes everything you’d need to brew a fresh cup. The sleek, modern design looks like a capsule, and inside it has a scoop for measuring and tamping grounds, a serving cup, and an insulated thermos for hot water.
It’s simple to use the Minipresso. After you’ve scooped and packed the espresso, fill the tank with hot water and unlock the pumping system. The product utilizes a hand pump to move water through the grounds in lieu of a pressurized air system. Despite this active process, Wacaco says that it’s easier and faster than inflating a bicycle tire by hand. You extract the coffee as you pump, and when you’re done you have about 2 ounces of espresso to enjoy.
The portability of this product makes it ideal for camping, hiking, and other adventures. Wacaco ran a successful pre-order campaign for the Minipresso, and they expect to start shipping it in early 2015. Check out the video below to see it in action.
