Hong Kong-based artist Mini Lau designs and creates wonderfully whimsical pastel tattoos. Delicately drawn with fine lines and candy-colored ink, each tiny illustration adorns the skin in a subtle yet striking manner reminiscent of a storybook.
Lau is one of the three artists that make up Hello Tattoo, a shop that specializes in a range of styles, from tribal tattoos to mandala-inspired pieces. Lau’s aesthetic is categorized as Korean, a genre renowned for its tiny tattoos featuring watercolor-like shading. Like many tattoo artists who dabble in the Korean style, much of Lau’s work is inspired by nature. Dainty flowers, exquisite feathers, and simplistic dream catchers are popular commissions among her clients, though she also creates pieces inspired by classic fairy tales, featuring characters like Peter Pan and The Little Prince. Her growing portfolio of pastel tattoos also includes one-of-a-kind abstractions.
With their understated, ethereal tones and teeny-tiny size, Lau’s tattoos are able to beautifully adorn any part of the body—even, as one customer has proven, your ear! Lau views tattoos as an art form that’s here to stay, and hopes that her lovely creations bring “a steady stream of creative spirit” to those who wear them.
