Taking a Reading Vacation in a Book Igloo

Could this be the perfect reading hideaway for all the bookworms out there? Colombian artist Miler Lagos constructed this self-sustained dome made entirely of books, titled Home, for an installation exhibit late last year at MagnanMetz Gallery in New York. Remarkably, there is nothing holding the novels together other than the careful alignment of each book closely stacked against one another. Christopher Jobson of Colossal calls the piece a “book igloo” which is an accurate label, given the brick-like pattern the books create on the dome-like structure. Luckily, this igloo won’t melt. I’m also really fond of the artistic choice to place the books in such a way that the multicolored binds are visually trapped within the piece. It’s like a secret treasure within a cave!
